Moby Zazà stops off the coast of Bastia

From a passenger we learn that the "Moby Zazà" ferry, which left Bastia this afternoon around 3.20pm and headed for Livorno, suddenly stopped when it was off the French coast and the engines stopped working ("we are stopped, left 15/20 from Bastia towards Livorno, 08/06, in the middle of the sea with the engines off!!!”).

The ship remained "still" (speed around one knot) from around 3.30pm until around 4pm and then resumed its journey towards the Tuscan port.

The crew also told the passengers that the speed is so low because the ship runs on only 1 engine

I just watched the Zaza dock in Bastia today and she did so without any assistance and with at least one engine per axle running

Things look to have been a little better today - two hours late arriving and a steady 13 knots on passage.

Moby Zazà's races cancelled today

The departures that Moby Zazà was supposed to make today have been cancelled, in fact from the sites of the ports it is read that the departure of 8 o'clock from the port of Livorno and the departure at 14:30 from Bastia have been cancelled.

The reasons for this cancellation are unknown, for now.

It would seem that the Moby Corse is still stopped in Bastia (12:20 pm) because it is most likely boarding the passengers of the Zazà who had to leave Corsica.

Moby Ale Due passes inspection

The ferry 'Moby Ale Due' left this morning at about 5:45 from the port of Ajaccio towards Genoa to return to service on Genova-Porto Torres.

The ship made a technical stop, as already anticipated by us days ago, in the Corsican port of Ajaccio to be subjected to an inspection by the competent authorities and that gave a positive result and therefore the green light to continue the service

During the inspection there were only 3 deficiencies which however did not lead to the detention of the vessel, and they are:

Rescue boats: not ready for use
remote control (opening, pumps, vent...) machinery: not as requested
Engine room cleaning: not as requested

Zaza is back in service today and is cruising along at 15 kts. Maybe the cancellation yesterday was to ensure that carry out repairs to her propulsion system. Great to see that money is not just spent on keeping the creative livery up to date... 😂

I wonder what else could be more crucial than the rescue gear efficiency state when deciding whether to detain or not a ship 😱

What exactly is meant with "engine room cleaning"?

These deficiency reports are basically put together with a multi - choice tick box. There will also be comments which the ship gets to see, but which don't get published. That means that they should only be read as a rough guide, rather than in detail. I suspect that there was a generally untidy engine room, perhaps some oil drips, perhaps it just needed a bit of a clean. Since there was no detention, it would be fairly minor and quickly sorted in any case.

Moby Zazà stuck in Bastia

From the passengers we learn The ferry 'Moby Zazà' is still blocked in the port of Bastia from about 12:30 following an inspection that is being conducted by the competent authorities.

Passengers who were still on the quay at 16:50 were offered bottles of water and from the information office they report to be patient (the time of the inspection does not depend on them)

How can it be efficient to operate this ferry. There are engine problems since it entered service at the 30th may. I think there wasn’t a single crossing on time and there must be many passengers complaining about this. Are there no other ferries left to replace her until they fix the engines?

•Machinery space openings: not as required

•Maritime Labour Certificate: Invalid

•Other (fire safety): other

•Fixed fire extinguishing installation : not as required

They look to be non serious issues (taking just the categories from inspection reports often make trivial things look bad). The ship ran her return sailing delayed and has continued in service since then.

Problems for Moby Wonder

In the last few hours the company “Moby Lines” informed passengers that the Genoa-Olbia of 23/6 at 21:30 that would be carried out by Moby Wonder was changed to Livorno-Olbia at 22 with Moby Legacy.

Probably a part of the passengers of Moby Wonder will be sorted on Moby Otta as the ride on Genova-Olbia this evening at 21:15 is no longer bookable on the Booking.

The reason for this change is unknown but it could be due to some problem on Moby Wonder
