Goods now crossing Channel at pre-Brexit speed, says tunnel chief - Times Article
"Goods are crossing from the EU to the UK at the same speed as they were before Brexit, the boss of the Channel tunnel has said.
Yann Leriche, the managing director of Eurotunnel, said that more than €111 million had been spent on changes at the terminals and on new “Border Pass” technology that allows hauliers to clear customs before arriving at the port. It also removes the need for drivers of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) to produce up to 100 individual pieces of customs paperwork at the tunnel terminals. About 25 per cent of UK-EU trade passes through the tunnel."

...

"Transport providers are particularly concerned about the looming introduction of the EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES). The IT system, which will automatically monitor the border-crossing of third-country citizens and replace passport stamps, was due to come into force in May, but was then delayed until November before being further delayed. Sources now expect it to launch after the Paris Olympics next year."

Pragmatism or computer says not ready?

"Tourists heading to Europe could face 14-hour queues at Dover from October.

MPs told that new EU Entry-Exit System could lead to gridlocked roads in Kent town if scheme goes ahead as planned."

There are a few sub postmasters who can testify to the robustness of an IT system which enables false allegations. Prepare yourselves for prosecutions for over stays when you haven't, but the computer says you have

Since the UK relaxed the rules on school visits from France and potentially all other EU countries in December and the UK rejoining EU Horizons as well in December around the same date, maybe some pragmatism on UK - EU travel may now prevail. There are now much bigger issues in the world apart from Brexit recrimination swiping for both.

Unfortunately it's not in the gift of Mackinlay or any other MPs, government or not, to effect any change. Given it's an EU initiative introduced (with full UK backing at the time) it would need an EU-agreed carve out to allow UK citizens to enter/exit differently. Perhaps with the more sensible relationships that now seem to be forming we might be able to get that agreed.

Why does the UK always have to be different? I'd be totally against the uk getting any special status. They voted for it. Live with it.

From what I understand, these are due to be introduced in October.

Are there specific dates known and is the introduction being rolled out on separate days depending on port location and progress in installing the new equipment required?

Apart from Eurostar and Eurotunnel, are all the checks and data gathering taking place in the EU port of arrival?

No doubt there will be plenty more questions to have answered, too.

BrexSHIT, the biggest waste of time and effort this country has ever been through.

I'm keen to see what happens in October. I am in Germany on business in November and I'm dreading the flight to Berlin and then obviously Bretagne's last sailing.

If sense prevails, the UK EU will have a similar system to US Canadian system for Canadians entering the US - no ESTA and no visa except for specific purposes and same in reverse. Removes a large bureaucratic load from the system, makes the CTA easier with Ireland.

Just remind you of the fact that were no visas between Western European countries before 1973.
