After more than seven months out of service since last summer's technical disaster the Mega Express Five is finally now back in service for Corscia Ferries.hhvferry wrote: ↑11 Aug 2023 19:35 Mega Express Five is in La Spezia for repairs after encountering mechanical issues. She made the short coastal sailing there from her Italian home base of Savona this morning and has parked up next to the dry dock. There has, in turn, been a cascade of cancelled sailings ).

The Sardinia Vera has left on her final voyage and is en-route for Aliaga where she will be reunited for the last time with her sister the Moby Vincent. Her current location is bisecting the Livorno-Bastia route which, of all the services this class have operated over the years, was the one they were most associated with.

Guesssing CORSICA MARINA SECONDA will be next. Do we think that it is a 50 year class survey that is killing these ships?
As the environmental laws get tougher (albeit delayed in some parts of Europe) no doubt we'll gradually see the classic vessels disappear.
Sad on one hand but totally necessary for the natural evolution of the ferry industry.

Not sure about something specific coming up to do with their age. Moby included the Moby Vincent in their original 2024 timetables but then replaced her with the Zaza. The Vincent had been chaotically unreliable in the last couple of years and my suspicion is they just eventually decided that, even though she was the best suited ship in their fleet for the Livorno-Bastia route, they couldn't go on like that any longer.
For Corsica Ferries only one of the Vera and Marina has really been in use as a passenger ship since Covid and they may have decided to keep the one which is better and replace the ship doing the ad hoc freight and car carrying runs with something more appropriate (It's rumoured that that something might be the Napoli ex-Norse Mersey). The Vera had her own mechanical problems last year.
Nevertheless it's obviously clear that the writing is on the wall for the last survivor and Corsica Ferries will have to start planning for life without her. This class has been amongst the most successful ferry series ever, hugely influential in the history of ferry design and all with lengthy service careers. They'll be missed.

Mega Express Five until May 5 (at least)
The 'Mega Express Five' ferry has been stopped in Vado Ligure since April 19 due to technical problems (problems with the engines it would seem) that did not allow him to undertake the evening section Savona-Bastia scheduled at 20 of the 19th.
At the moment from passengers travelling with CSF it is learned that the ship should be stopped at least until May 5 and this has caused cancellations and postponement of routes

They were a bit slow getting started, with some odd freight only deep sea charters before they found long term work, but in many ways were some of the first modern ferries, with an emphasis on freight as well as decent passenger accommodation. Not far off an early Visentini! Stena probably didn't get them quite perfect, the lift to the upper deck isn't ideal for short routes, and the small number of cabins is a problem for longer crossingshhvferry wrote: ↑27 Apr 2024 12:31

Cancellations for Corsica Ferries
The ferry companions “Corsica Ferries” cancelled some rides for today, here are what they are:
Toulon-Ajaccio on 18/5 at 23:59 and arrival at 10: cancelled
Ajaccio-Tolone of 19/05 at 11:15 : cancelled
Toulon-Bastia of 19/5 at 21:30 : cancelled
The reason for these cancellations would seem to be attributable (according to the pax) to a failure of the ship that would be Pascal Lota in fact the ship moved from the piers of the port of Toulon and was docked in the quay near 'La Seyne-Sur-Mer'

While in Olbia earlier this month, I pictured the "Rosa Dei Venti" operated by Gruppo Grendi between Marina di Carrara, Olbia and Cagliari.
She was bought by Corsica Ferries last year, but I understand she's still chartered to Grendi, so she's now having the Corsica Ferries logo on her funnel, while retaining her original paler yellow hull. I cannot say the mix of colours is really suiting her.

When a ferry is that ugly, the colours are of less significance.dogan wrote: ↑31 May 2024 22:13 While in Olbia earlier this month, I pictured the "Rosa Dei Venti" operated by Gruppo Grendi between Marina di Carrara, Olbia and Cagliari.

With a much nicer and full Corsica Ferries livery, here are a few ferries caught getting out of Golfo Aranci :
Mega Express Two leaving Golfo Aranci to Livorno on 15th May 2024.

Mega Express Four leaving Golfo Aranci to Livorno on 16th May 2024.
What's left of what was once a Superfast iconic funnel : her conversion really made her look more squarish than what she was before.

Rare I think to see the Mega Four down there (although the ships do tend to switch around a lot more nowadays).

Pascal Lota remains out of service in Toulon so it seems to be a pretty major issue.ManiaNave wrote: ↑19 May 2024 08:21 Cancellations for Corsica Ferries

Pascal Lota has now left Toulon for Genova, at a very low speed (about 7-8 knots). The ship is expected tomorrow morning in Genova (for dry docking ?). Its next Toulon-Bastia sailing is now scheduled for June the 12th, according to the port of Bastia.
Mega Express Five is still moored in Savona Vado for a few days... The ship is not expected in Bastia before June the 27th.

Passengers in prison on Mega Regina
From social media we learn that the passengers who had boarded Thursday afternoon / evening on the 'Mega Regina' ferry, which was docked in Toulon with the final destination Porto Torres, were imprisoned on board for more than 24 hours in fact from the stories of the people on board we learn that the ship around 22:30/23, when it was off the French port of Toulon, had to go back for a breakdown (it would seem).
Many passengers complained that no crew member on board gave information about what happened.
Then yesterday afternoon around 17:30 the ship before sailing did some tests at sea that lasted about 1 hour and then finally at 22:20 the ferry “Mega Regina” left the berths of the port of Toulon to sail towards Porto Torres where it arrived today at 9
