Ship runs aground in Yucatan
The Grande Senegal ferry, loaded with containers and vehicles, ran aground this Monday due to an alleged accident, in a small area of reefs called "Bajo de Madagascar", off the coast of Sisal, belonging to the municipality of Hunucmá.
A group of riverside residents of this Buenos Aires police station in Hunucmá –located 65 kilometers south-southeast of the Yucatecan capital- reported the mishap.
The large ship, apparently, was heading to Germany and belongs to the Italian multinational Grimaldi Lines, as confirmed hours later by the port authorities, who only gave brief information about this mishap.
Around 4 in the afternoon the location (coordinates) of the ship was: N 21•26.456' W 090•17.697, more or less 40 kilometers from the Sisal coast.
The "Bajo de Madagascar" is home to great marine biodiversity and has a depth of 4 fathoms (about 7 meters), it is also located about 22 nautical miles, equivalent to approximately 40 kilometers from the port of Sisal.
Seamen, in coordination with this small fishing population, demanded before the municipal authorities that the Italian company be held responsible if the stranding caused damage to the reef.
Until now it is unknown if the maritime authorities have already taken notice of the incident which, according to veteran seamen, would be an unprecedented event in the waters of the port of Sisal.

Grimaldi Lines
Continuing my series of pictures of ferries spotted this summer, here are the ones of the Grimaldi Lines family.

Eco Savona entering Livorno harbour in early morning on 22nd August. I'm not sure the green hull was a great idea... it doesn't suit ships well in my opinion ! But I guess it was to emphasis the "Zero Emission in Port" message.

Also on 22nd August, but a bit later, was arriving in Livorno from Olbia the huge Cruise Sardegna.

Cruise Sardegna arriving in Livorno.

Cruise Sardegna arriving in Livorno.

A lot of people on deck to watch the morning arrival !

Cruise Sardegna entering the harbour of Livorno.

Eurocargo Sicilia was seen making very slowly her way to Livorno on 22nd August (maybe waiting for other ships to get in or out).
She's picture at a distance, so the picture is a bit blurry from the heat (I couldn't stay longer and wait for her to get inside the harbour).

Cruise Europa is in Marseille, it looks like it's for repairs rather than scheduled maintenance.
Cruise Bonaria is filling the gap on the Livorno-Olbia route.
